Extra Curricular Activities and After School Programs

At Bache-Martin we like to provide an experience that also goes beyond academics. Our school has a wide variety of after school activities for our Tigers, even during middle school.

Cheerleading Team
Started in the fall of 2018, this program provides a creative outlet, and physical activity for young teens (add some text from cheer team application flyer?).

Chess After School
The Knight School, has come to Bache-Martin with their perfected hilarious, kid-focused, amazingly cool approach to a big, fun, genuinely thrilling chess class. Watch as your child gains academic confidence, analytical ability, personal integrity, chess friends, and a self-identity as a very smart person!
Choir and Chorale
Launched in fall 2013 to expand the music training for children in underserved schools throughout the city, the Settlement Music School's Music Education Pathways program teaches students how to grow and develop singing skills, while playing music games and preparing for several concerts including a concert at Temple Performing Arts Center in May!

FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.

Need in Deed
Need in Deed helps students increase academic and 21st-century skills through the transformative experience of service-learning that connects the classroom with the community.

Philly Tutors Gaming Club
Philly Tutors brings in exciting games like Sushi Go, NFL Showdown, Upwords, Candy Land, Chess, and Connect Four Math ...shh, don't tell them they're learning math and strategy, while having fun and preparing for HS!

Philadelphia City Rowing
Bache-Martin 7th and 8th grade students are invited sign-up for this FREE 8-week introduction to rowing program. Students learn to work as a team, eat healthy, learn rowing, and  learn how to swim if they don't already know.

Spanish Club
The Spanish club was started by  middle school native Spanish speakers, for their peers to learn Spanish at lunch.

The Spanish Club is an extension of last year's Need in Deed project!

Middle School Moments!

Want to have a window into our middle school? Here are some middle school moments, snippets of what happens every day at Bache-Martin!

Back in October, 7th grade immersed themselves in maps in order to understand Sir Francis Drake's voyage around the world.

Individual students analyzed a zoomed-in-piece of maps. Then as a class, students found other students with the rest of the map and pieced it together to see which map of Sir Francis Drake's journey they had.
All City Middle School Instrumental Music Festival

Congratulations to Zyikerra James (Bass Clarinet, Gr6) and Anna Zhang (Bassoon, Gr8). They represented Bache-Martin Middle School at the All City Middle School Instrumental Music Festival at the Merriam Theater!
This festival pulls together outstanding middle school instrumental students, selected by audition, from across the city.

Debate Time!

Ms. Jones's social studies class prepared arguments for a debate on who caused King Philip's War in 1675. The students were divided into two groups each arguing a different side in a structured debate. Students were excited to voice their own interpretation of history using evidence from primary sources.
Book Tasting!

The 5th grade literacy students in Mrs. Malloy's class enjoyed a "Book Tasting" the 2nd week of school. They entered "Cafe Malloy", enjoyed genre "menus", and previewed the book titles to find "Just Right" books. Their choices will help inform their independent reading choices for the year.
